FaceTime – Apple’s video-calling technology
If you’re an Apple user, you’ve most probably heard of the famous video calling app named ‘Facetime’. If not, it is a point-to-point communication portal where you can chat with any other person using your Apple ID.
The app also has its own history system, which keeps track of the people you have chatted with in the past. Also, you can use HD quality cameras without any lag or slow-downs – the app being very well optimized. Facetime is among the various categories of Mobile Apps for PC which can also be enjoyed on the PC. It’s fun to use and comes in handy, since you don’t have to switch between your PC and phone continuously,
However, the app is only available on iOS and not on Android or Windows. At least, not officially. But don’t fret, for we have a solution for that as well! In the following steps, we will show you how you can install Facetime on your PC with the help of two different emulators. Ipadian is used to emulate iOS and Bluestacks is used to emulate the Android environment on the PC. You can even download and install both and see which fits you better in the long run. Now, let’s jump right into the installation procedures.
For Bluestacks:
- In order to download bluestacks go to Google and type in “Bluestacks download” (without quotes). After clicking the download will start and, depending upon your connection, it should only take a few minutes to download the emulator.
- After downloading you will end up with a ~200MB file. Double-click on it and install it. Note that it will take some time since this is a whole new operating system. After installing, the software will download some additional files, after which it will be fully installed.
- After you open it up, you will be met with a screen similar to that of the interface of an Android tab. You will be asked to sign in with your Google account before you can do anything on the emulator. If you don’t have a Google account, you can go ahead and create one and go on with the signing up process.
- After you have signed in, bluestacks may take some time to sync all your data and update a few apps such as the play store and the Google play services. It’s like setting up a brand-new Android
- After setting up bluestacks you will need to go to the play store and type in “Facetime” and hit search. Download the app and launch it.
- In order to use Facetime, you will also need to have an Apple ID. If you don’t have one, you should go to apple.com and create one for yourself. Note that to chat with your friends they also need to have an Apple ID. It won’t be a problem is they use iOS devices or a MAC, instead of a PC.
- After you have logged in your ID, search for your friends by entering their IDs, send them a request, add them to your list and you are good to go.
For Ipadian:
- The Ipadian is an emulator for the Apple OS. Click on the download link to get the software.
- After you have finished downloading, install it. After successfully installing the emulator, log into the emulator with the help of your Apple ID. Since the app is exclusive to the Apple OS, you will not be required to log into the Facetime app separately. Creating an Apple account is super easy and it doesn’t cost anything.
- Go to the Apple store and in the search bar type “Facetime”. Download the App and it will automatically be installed. Once the installation is done, open it up. Login to the app with your ID, add your friends to the list and you will be ready to have a chat with them.
Here are some tips before you download the Facetime app onto your computer.
- Your Windows operating system should be Windows 7 or higher,in order to use the emulators.
- The CPU should be clocked at 1GHz or higher speed.
- The computer should have at least 2GB of RAM for both the emulators and the app to run properly.
- If you’re on PC then you should buy a webcam, otherwise you won’t be able to chat via Facetime. In case of a laptop, they typically come equipped with a webcam. Also, make sure that you have a headphone with a functional mic. Desktops don’t come with mics and the in case of a laptop, the mic is located near the webcam. It’s not comfortable to talk so close to the screen, so it is best to invest in a good set of headphones.
- The facetime app is free and can be used by anyone around the world.
- The visuals of the video calldepend on the individual devices and their internet connections.
- The app also comes with the ability to block specific users whom you do not want to talk with.
- Facetime also supports conference calls up to 10 people simultaneously. With a stable internet connection, everyone can chat on the app without any issues.
Note that Facetime is not an alternative to any other video calling app out there. Every software package and app has its advantages and disadvantages. Facetime just happens to be the best suitable for the iOS platform. Facetime is well optimized and is very easy to use because of simple UI. It has been around for quite some time and that is the reason it is preferred by so many people. Its popularity has spread so much that it is now also available on the Android OS. So bluestacks is also a viable option if you intend to run the app. If you have an Apple ID, then it is better to use Ipadian.
